Awnings not only have to be very resistant, they also have to look good, for as many years as possible. This requires technical perfection and appealing designs. A major manufacturer of sun protection technology was looking for a special textile sliding profile for a new development. It decided to call in the specialists from mobil Kunststoffprofile for this new awning system.
The profile to be developed guides the awning fabric and is clipped onto different aluminium profiles at specific points. The requirements for the application material include high UV resistance, good sliding properties and deformability for sheet guides. Of course, the material must also be abrasion-resistant so that the awning fabric remains free of marks. Based on previous projects, the customer enquired about the use of POM material.
With the tool development and manufacturing costs in mind, mobil Kunststoffprofile tested POM and soon went in search of alternative materials. Special knowledge of the material and an understanding of the associated possibilities was a prerequisite. ASA was therefore recommended for its high UV and weather resistance and surface hardness. This was used as a basis for development and series production.
